IonCube is a source code protection engine. It is used only in the trial version of the X-Cart software. IonCube compiles PHP files in encrypted binary format, that is why a special loader is needed to run compiled files at your host. All necessary loaders are bundled with the trial demo.

Possible reasons why ionCube is not working at your host:

• ionCube loader not found (You are using MS Windows and X-Cart and PHP are located on different logical drives (eg. PHP is installed on disk C: and X-Cart on disk D:). To resolve this, move X-Cart to the same disk as PHP or put all loader files from the xcart/ioncube directory to the directory defined in the variable extension_dir in php.ini file (c:\php4\extensions\ by default). Also, you can visit the ionCube PHP Loader homepage, download the valid loaders for your system and install them following the instructions, provided in the README file in loaders archive) supported version of PHP (Currently versions of PHP 4.0.6 - 5.x.x are supported)

It seems that one or several files of X-Cart trial demo were modified somehow. Please note that the trial demo expires in 30 days after it was downloaded from our web-site. So it seems that the reason of 'corrupted' or 'expired' warning message is file corruption.

Possible reasons:

1. Files were corrupted during decompression. If you use WinZip to decompress the .tgz then you must disable the 'TAR file smart CR/LF conversion' option found on the options -> configuration -> miscellaneous menu. WinZip may not remember its settings so don't quit WinZip at this point, just unpack the files. Then the files will not be corrupted.
2. Files were uploaded in FTP ACSII mode (automatic selector of FTP mode will upload files in ASCII mode!!!).
3. Someone attempted to edit the .php files of X-Cart free trial demo.

Solution: remove the "expired" copy of the demo, re-download free trial demo from our web-site, unpack it and upload properly and run the installation wizard one more time.

If for some reason the X-Cart trial does not work on your host, this doesn't mean that the full version will not work as well. The trial version is encrypted with ionCube technology which applies restrictions to the operating system environment and web server configurations. Full version of X-Cart will work on any OS where PHP/MySQL meets minimum system requirements.
