X-Cart as Magento alternative.
X-Cart vs Magento comparison
What is the right choice for your business?
It’s a known fact that selecting the right platform for their e-commerce business, the merchants are considering several platforms, studying the reviews, spending dozens of hours and even days on forums. And it’s a common situation when they ask themselves, whether X-Cart or Magento is the best choice. If you could browse the store where both platforms are listed and press button ‘compare’, the result will look as follows.
Built-in features vs extensions from marketplace
X-Cart has tons of features out of the box: it’s an easy to manage yet powerful store with dozens of payment integrations, real-time shipping- and tax- calculation, marketing tools, special offers, coupons, affiliate program and other. Many of such extensions can be found in Magento marketplace, moreover, some of them – for free.
But wait, is it equally convenient for a merchant?
- When the code is written by the store vendor, it’s verified and tested, it’s consistent. Thus it’s easier to customize if necessary.
- Once the new version is released, the updated functionality is there. You don’t need to wait for updates from the 3rd party developers.
- Should any question appear, you can always report a ticket with us – without necessity to hunt high and low among hundreds of developers, trying to remember whose extension you installed. Combinability of all these extensions with each other is also under question!
- Don’t forget that the extensions are to be installed. Are you eager to spend several hours installing the extensions yourself, or do you really want to entrust your store to dozens of developers you’re not acquainted with?
Why all this headache if simply purchasing a solution that is ready to sell right now is a better alternative?
According to our statistics more than 40% of users now use tables and mobile devices to browse the websites, and this figure grows inevitably. Ignoring this fact means losing the precious traffic.
Responsive design is available out of the box in X-Cart. Absolutely SEO-friendly mobile skin is a part of ‘Gold Mobile’ package, but it can also be purchased as a separate module later if necessary.
Support by vendor
Who knows the software in and out, a 3rd party developer or the author of the product? Who tracks all the changes of all versions and can help with whatever question? No doubt, the answer is obvious. That’s why X-Cart doesn’t outsource technical support to external companies – instead we prefer to have our own team of experienced engineers, and each of them is ready to offer a helpful hand if required. And when the problem is urgent, when every minute counts, you don’t need to waste your time searching for a person who can help – you just get in touch with us and we start troubleshooting.
Alternatively, with Magento Community this trick does not work. They don’t provide technical assistance.
The search engines change algorithms regularly (do you remember Panda or Penguin updates which shook up the search results?) so one can never be 100% sure that this or that trick will always work. But as long the merchant is not being tempted to use Black Hat SEO techniques, as long as he generates content mainly and primary for humans, not for robots, he may feel comfortable. Both X-Cart and Magento give a full set of legal SEO tools: Clean URLs, Meta data, Google base products export, page titles, etc. Use them properly and the store rank will grow.
Easy to customize
Well-known Smarty template engine, simple and clear PHP code, ability to edit whatever part of code without limitations, direct access to database make X-Cart very easy to modify. Additionally, there’s a ‘Webmaster mode’ feature which makes customization even more pleasant and user-friendly.
Yes, Magento Community itself is free. But if you want to be competitive in terms of speed (both your visitors and Google love fast sites!), you will need to pay for VPS or even a dedicated server even if you have just opened the store and have little or none of the visitors. The point is that Magento is very resource hungry, it will eat out all the allowed RAM, CPU time, HTTP and/or mySQL connections the cheap shared hosting can offer. And the more simultaneous visitors browse the store, the more products your database contains, the slower it becomes.
X-Cart, vice versa, has always been faster, and with the release of version 4.6, where speed optimization was the main focus, this advantage has become absolutely undeniable.
PCI DSS compliance
X-Cart is out of PCI scope as it does not receive, store or transmit credit card data. (This is even confirmed in Visa merchant agent list). Instead it ourtsources the collecting of this sensitive info to payment processors: the user is redirected right to payment gateway site to submit payment. X-Cart doesn’t even touch the cc info, thus the merchant may rest assured that he will never be penalized (dozens of thousands dollars, by the way!) for stolen credit cards!
If you want to expand the list of payment processors, or if you want to avoid these redirects, it’s also possible with X-Cart. It integrates with PA-DSS certified X-Payments software that provides secure and safe credit card form for your online shop. You may recall that you’ve heard about PA-DSS certified Magento Payment Bridge. Yes, this solution exists -but for Enterprise edition only. It is NOT available for Magento Community!
As for Magento community, it supports both web-based (with redirect) and background (without redirect) payment processors – which troubles the PCI DSS compliance certification for a merchant. With proper server and application configuration it may be possible, too, but it may require much more efforts and probably even expenses.
Social login feature, social sharing buttons, f-commerce Go application to multiply your conversions using Facebook as an additional channel. Being closer to your customers with the features X-Cart offers you will boost your sales!
X-Cart Platinum is a powerful platform for those who want to create an online marketplace. Multiple vendors can share the single store to sell their products. Each provider (vendor) manages his own products/orders only – without access to the orders of others.
