1. Where are your servers physically located?   Top

They are located in USA, either in Dallas or Seattle.


2. What is the purpose of a dedicated IP?   Top

Due to some particular qualities of HTTPS protocol, you need a dedicated IP address in order to setup a dedicated SSL certificate. Therefore, if you're planning to use a shared SSL provided by X-Cart hosting, usually you don't have to use a dedicated IP. However, if you intend to have your own dedicated SSL, a dedicated IP is needed in this case.


3. What is the difference between a shared and a dedicated SSL certificate?   Top

The main difference is that a shared SSL is a single certificate used by all hosting clients free of charge. It means that when people check the verification details, the certificate shows the hosting company information (and not your own).

Therefore, store owners usually prefer using a dedicated certificate due to the more professional store look (since the certificate is dedicated to your company/web site).

Also, with a shared SSL certificate, your secure links will point to an URL like https://yourstore.x-shops.com. With a dedicated SSL, only the HTTPS prefix will be added before your domain name (e.g. https://www.yourstore.com) thus providing a cleaner URL format.


4. How long does it take to install/transfer the store?   Top

Store installation/transfer is performed within one business day. After the procedure is completed, the store is accessible via a test URL. The convenient time of a final transfer is settled between you and us before proceeding.

For urgent problems, we advice that you use the HotRush option. Unfortunately, we do not provide phone support, however, tasks requiring intense communication can always be discussed via instant messenger.


11. What about security?   Top

We take security questions very seriously since they are a critical factor for all store owners. Our servers are PCI compliant and they are checked regularly via Comodo HackerGuardian, McAfee Secure (ex-ScanAlert) and Nessus vulnerability scanner.

Also, our servers are protected from DDoS attacks via Cisco Guard and built-in LiteSpeed web server components.


12. You're using LiteSpeed web server instead of Apache. Will my custom scripts be workable in this case?   Top

Yes, definitely. LiteSpeed is compatible with Apache, therefore you can use your custom scripts along with mod_rewrite and .htaccess rules. Also, LiteSpeed provides a significant web site performance increase


13. What if I need additional IP address. Is this possible?   Top

Yes, we can provide you with any number of additional IP addresses for USD $30 a year.
